Tips for Giving an Effective Presentation

Presentation skills are very much required in today’s life. A presentation is not just standing and giving information, it’s about your audience and how you involve them. It’s an essential criterion for any field to survive nowadays. Some people are the very best in their field of work but if you ask them to define that same work in front of a hall their anxiety level increases.

Walkerstone has created an infographic named “Do’s and Don’ts of presenting”, which covers some essential facts to boost your confidence and give an astounding presentation.

While preparing your presentation, consider the following 7 points:

  •         Decide the presentation objectives and key message
  •         Think about your audience
  •         Planning
  •         Create handouts of content
  •         Make a structure of all information
  •         Prepare answers for questions that will be asked
  •         Practice

Furthermore, avoid using jargon; speak in a language known to your audience. If you use technical language in front of non-technical person, they will miss the punch and run opposite to the flow. Instead be funny, do some crazy hand waving and try to create a relaxed atmosphere.

Since you have probably already demonstrated your work ethic, use your presentation to demonstrate your sense of humour. But while doing that don’t lose your professionalism. Always be short and simple. Carry some effective notes instead of reading from slides.
