4 Reasons Why Twitter Doesn’t Suck

I’ve always heard about Twitter, but I didn’t become a part of its community until about a year and a half ago when a friend finally taught me how to use it. Now, it’s my favourite social network!

Here are some of the reasons I love Twitter and how it has enriched my (social) life:

It’s so easy to share content with your friends. I share my favourite songs, movie trailers, quotes and links to my creative writing, and share pictures of what I’m up to.

Result: I’ve become the go-to person for literature, film, writing, and geek culture.

    Trending / Breaking News

Traditional news outlets (ie: television, print) updates you on events maybe up to 3 times a day. Twitter updates you on the minute. It’s my way of getting instant, breaking news. Is it snowing? What are the latest political issues? Another band broke up? What new quirky thing did Jennifer Lawrence say? Is there a .gif for that? Twitter will let me know.

Result: Staying updated instantly and being in the know about current events.

    Twitter Chats

This is a great way to network with people who have the same interests as you. You can share your own experiences and learn from others as well. And if you attend the same Twitter chats regularly, people will be sure to interact with you more and even start following you.

Result: Become a part of a community and their discussions as well as network with people who have the same interests as you.

Watching a movie? Or reading a popular book? Sometimes, I live-tweet while I’m watching a movie or popular tv show. Along the way, followers will respond to my reactions or even share their experiences when they’ve watched the movie.

    Result: Conversation starter.

    Contests & Giveaways

I follow a lot of book publishers and film companies, and sometimes they announce a contest or giveaway they’re holding. Sometimes, it is as simple as retweeting something they have tweeted. I’ve won a few books and free advance screening tickets along the way. It’s a lot of fun!

Result: Interaction with a brand. Let’s you talk to a big entity that you may not get the chance to in real world.

This great blog post idea surfaced from a group project Problogger is hosting. Join in the fun! And did I mention there’s a prize too?
